Where to?

Adeeb Kamal Ad-Deen

1.

The sail is in the middle of the ship.

The ship is in the middle of the sea.

The sea is in the middle of my heart.

My heart is sinking slowly

In its quiet, violent dream.

2.

The ship is in the middle of the sea.

The ship is moving with our bodies:

I and You.

You are naked like the desire

And I am the desire itself:

Its nakedness,

Its eternal fire.

I have been kissing you from the faraway morning

To the faraway evening.

I have been kissing you from the faraway lips

To the faraway feet.

I have been kissing you from the faraway blood

To the faraway sea.

And the sea is carrying our naked bodies.

'Where to?', I shout, 'O my God, where to?'
